Greeting, Objectives & Daily Question

As students are entering the classroom, remind them to open their copybooks and write down the date and the topic.

T chooses a student leader to lead the opening of the lesson. Have the student leader ask:

-(Ask the daily question)

-What day is it today?

-What is the date today?

-What is the topic of the lesson?

-Ask some questions so to remember the material from the previous day. (How often …?)

Write the following in the middle of the board:

Tuesday, September 13th

Write the following on the side of the board or have it written on PPT slide:

  • Ask and answer 3-5 questions using “How often…”

  • Read a text

  • Practice writing new words

The teacher can then ask if the students understand the lesson objectives. Tell students that you hope they can do all the lesson objectives by the end of the lesson.

Warming up activity: Word racing game

First, go through PPP and revise the words for sport.

Then, divide sts into 2 groups, draw a line on the board to divide it into two halves, show them pictures for words of sport. Tell them that you would show them a picture and a representative of each group should come to the whiteboard, take a marker and write the appropriate word as quickly as he/she can. For each word written correctly the team gets a point.

Practice writing words for sport

Hand out worksheets and have sts look through the list of words, tell them that they have 2 min to memorize the spelling of the words. Then, they should fold the sheets so that they will not see the words and write them down by memory. When they finish, give them green pens, tell them that they can unfold their sheets of paper and check themselves on their own.

***Differentiation by support. Less confident sts can unfold the paper, look at each word, memorize it, then fold the worksheet and write down word by word.

Homework

Tell students to study their words!

Reflection

  • 3 things I’ve learnt today.

  • 2 things I’ve found interesting.

  • 1 question I still have.

Additional information

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners?

Assessment – how are you planning to check learners’ learning?

Health and safety check

More confident learners can be encouraged to write more for what words they learned that day at the end of the lesson. More able learners may be paired with students needing extra help for the TPS at the beginning of the lesson.

The teacher will know how well the students are doing at writing the new words and sentences by circulating the room often and checking written work.

Lessons will be delivered in accordance with health and safety standards.
